His numbers, every day since 2009
How much he posts, how hot he runs, whom he goes after and how the news treats him: 342 numbers counted every night, each charted a week at a time. The tint behind each chart is who was in the White House (blue for a Democrat, red for a Republican), a dashed line is a day his record changed shape, and the ticks along the bottom are episodes. Where the numbers come from
Newsdesk, the newsroom tool behind the show, counts these every night. His side comes from his posts: his tweets from 2009 to January 2021 (the Trump Twitter Archive, a public record) and his Truth Social posts since February 2022. For the year he wasn’t posting, his office’s statements stand in on the charts of what he talks about and whom he attacks, and are measured only against other statements. A day with no number is a gap, never a zero.
The world’s side comes from public data, credited on each chart that uses it: the GDELT Project · Wikipedia’s Current events · Wikipedia page views · GDELT, from the Internet Archive’s TV News Archive · the Federal Register · the Justice Department · FRED · Polls: FiveThirtyEight, VoteHub · Media Cloud · the Wayback Machine. Where a line counts bad news, each news line or headline was sorted good or bad for him once by Claude, an AI model, and the chart’s source says so. Stock and crypto prices, the betting markets, his public schedule and his speeches are counted in Newsdesk but not shown here, since their data isn’t free to share.
An episode is a burst the numbers show on their own: a binge, a quiet spell, a heated day, a bad-news week, a new subject or target, or turning on someone he’d praised. He changed lists the shifts in him that are big, very unlikely to be luck (a rank test of the 90 days before against the 90 after) and still in force. His Truth Social posts, his tweets from before 2021 and his office’s statements are quoted with their date and a link; his posts on X since 2021 aren’t quoted here, and a post X says is gone isn’t shown.
